The American Kestrel is a raptor that often perches on power lines along the road. Generally they give you only a second or so to grab a quick shot before they fly off after you pull over on the side of the road near one. That is, they give you a second or so if you're lucky. However, this particular Kestrel had caught a mouse and wasn't so quick to take off.
2013 was a record breaking year for snowy owls in NW Pennsylvania. On a frigid day in December, I trekked out to Gull Point with photographer friends of mine and made this image. The purples and blues combine to make this image feel like a winter day: Cold!
This is a purple martin fledgling photographed in Erie County PA. He was standing on the ground - I'm not sure if he fell out of the nest - and clearly wanted fed.
