This particular plant warms my soul every spring when it blooms. I found these in bloom one rainy spring day in the Erie National Wildlife Refuge near where I live.

I was cruising around my local haunts when I drove past this snapping turtle attempting to cross the road. These are hardly vicious creatures as long as you don't provoke them. That said, I have heard tales of snapping turtles biting a shovel handle in two. Tall tale or not, they would surely do a number on fingers.
